Newly released bodycam footage shows Decarlos Brown Jr., the man accused of fatally stabbing a Ukrainian refugee on a Charlotte light rail train, telling police months before the attack that a "man-made material" was controlling his body. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released video from a January 2025 welfare check where Brown himself called 911. In the footage, Brown claims that unauthorized material was placed inside him and controlled his bodily functions, including what he ate. He told officers he woke up on the ground and believed someone had done something to his body. During the 30-minute encounter, Brown insisted he was "mentally perfect" and rejected doctors' previous attempts to diagnose him with schizophrenia. Officers advised him to seek medical evaluation but did not initiate an involuntary commitment because he did not verbalize intent to harm himself or others at that time. Brown was arrested during the January incident for misuse of the 911 system after placing a second call while officers were still present.
